This picture of a little shop, hidden inside the bylanes of Bohri Mohalla is one of my favourites from last year. I remember clicking late at night after gorging on kebabs, while working on an article for NDTV on 10 must have meal in Mumbai. It was too dark outside and tubes too harsh but the moment was magic. The man in the red pants peering into the hot tandoor that’s under the platform he is sitting on. A moment of focus in the tiny shop as he checks if the breads are done and then pulls out another fresh batch of rotis. The comforting smell of baking dough perfuming the air. And the silent camaraderie of men who work side by side, night after night as they collectively churn out piles of large flat disks – hot, crisp and chewy rotis.
